The SummerCamp 2026 also served as the Critical Making Conference 2026. Over 100 workshop makers and guests from France, Ireland and Spain enjoyed four days of a jam-packed programme full of inspiring talks, hands-on workshops, spontaneous sessions and discussions, art and performances, as well as exchanges and networking with like-minded people and those with different perspectives. Open workshops – and, more generally, spaces for collaborative DIY – are the structures that create opportunities and provide fertile ground for forward-thinking and action. The conference made it clear: open workshops are diverse, magical ‘third places’ … and a resilient, adaptable and flexible society needs such ‘sanctuaries for the future’ to allow community spirit and individual initiative to flourish … in every town, in every village!
